Customers at a restaurant in the UK were caught on security cameras placing glass in their food to avoid paying a bill of £64.85.
The incident occurred last Saturday (5) at the San Marino Italian Bar restaurant, located in the town of Widnes, Cheshire, England.
As seen in the footage, a couple was seen placing a piece of glass in their food to avoid paying the £64.85 bill. The woman claimed the glass “almost broke” her “expensive” dental veneers.
The restaurant shared the footage on social media with the caption: “These kinds of scams are damaging to small, hard-working businesses like ours.”
Miraz Yolcu, the restaurant’s managing director, stated that the incident was reported to Cheshire Police, who confirmed they are investigating the matter.
“It was shocking to see the footage from the internal CCTV. They were with their daughter, but they have no shame,” Yolcu said, according to a report from Daily Mail.
“They ordered their food and started eating, and everything was fine. They were almost done with their food when the lady called one of the staff and said she found a piece of glass in the food.”
“Everyone was shocked. The staff were concerned and called the manager. They said they wouldn’t pay for the meal,” the director explained.
“The manager said: ‘Sorry, this just doesn’t happen, it’s impossible to find glass in the food. This is not the glass we use in the kitchen.’”
“We looked at the CCTV, and I saw he took the object out of his pocket and handed it to her. She simply placed it on the table, on top of a napkin, and pretended it was in her mouth,” Yolcu shared.
“This is a serious accusation that could involve the police, environmental health, and cause all sorts of problems for the business. It could be damaging to the restaurant’s reputation.”
“They didn’t pay for the food, but there was no compensation. We saw it on the CCTV, so we’re not paying them a penny,” he added.
